Paperface mostly works alone. From his lighthouse studio, where he has built up an analogue haven in the old light room, the choppy waters of the Thames lie in one direction, and the urban sprawl lies in the other. He is probably up there right now working on new material (weather permitting).

Love in the Time of Florida

‘Love in the Time of Florida’ ‘Beautiful and darkly funny songs, tinged with irony and rich in observation’
The second album from Paperface features sixteen new songs including ‘Idiot’ , ’Mr Wrong’ , ‘Boy’, ‘Heaven’ ‘Little Monsters’, and Snooker Star. Comparisons with the Walker Brothers, Robert Wyatt and Nick Lowe have been forthcoming. The album balances the melodic and storytelling tightrope with a lightness of touch that illuminates the darkness below. It features a live orchestra recorded in Budapest. The LP version is a double album in baby blue vinyl.
Paperface, is blessed to have a regular group of musicians that are prepared to travel from far away. On one outing, that included a live session at the BBC studios and a show at the Union Chapel in Islington, the band were subjected to an eight hour ferry crossing owing to bad weather, but simply chose to rehearse throughout, such is the love they feel for this mysterious man and his music.
Some of the singles were accompanied by hand-drawn animations . You can find the drawings from these (also by Paperface) in the Drawings section
Out of Time

His acclaimed first album ‘Out of Time’ received rave reviews and spawned a host of fans thanks in no small part to BBC Radio 6 Music, where songs such as ‘Amsterdam’and ‘A Bigger Man’were supported by Lauren Laverne, Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie. The vinyl sold out at Rough Trade in only a few weeks.
The songs were recorded on guitar at the lighthouse, then drums bass, piano, and all manner of noises added in an old stone-walled chamber next to a nightclub in the south of France. The orchestra was recorded in Prague, and the whole thing was mixed in a crumbling old chateaux surrounded by woods and the odd wandering musician. The LP version comes in red vinyl.

“Beguiling, clever, sad, and really funny at the same time… I love this!”
Lauren Laverne, BBC Radio 6 Music

“I’ve been an idiot for not playing that sooner. Excellent!”
John Kennedy, Radio X

“On my 6Music Recommends show, Paperface got a big response from listeners… absolutely beautiful…”
Stuart Maconie, BBC Radio 6 Music

“Wow! That’s something really special. Quickly becoming one of my new favourites!”
Chris Hawkins, BBC Radio 6 Music
